What are the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals?

In 2015, all UN Member States adopted a plan of action for people, planet, and prosperity.

17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed upon by all UN Member States. Their purpose? To stimulate action in areas that are critical for the future of humanity and our shared planet.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our Methodology

It was important to set some rules for curating this list so that it ends up being useful to job seekers who are interested in getting involved and supporting change.

We therefore had two main criteria for selection:

1. Contributing towards a Sustainable Development Goal

These goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. They are interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by 2030.

2. Growth Status

It’s valuable to be involved in a Company that is growing quickly and impactful as a result. Because of the private nature of many, we used their fundraising data to evaluate their growth speed and size. We also considered their investors when making this decision as a key signal for an attractive and sustainable model. All information was readily available and gathered from online sources.

We aimed to create a UK-centric list, but notable standouts from other countries were included. This is also our first annual list and we aim to include a more balanced representation across the Sustainable Development Goals categories in future ones.

Thanks to the United Nations and their Sustainable Development Goals for the inspiration!
